Every morning everything is perfect. I'm starting Visual Studio and develop some stuff. After a while if i start my huge Project the Windows Explorer begins to crash all the time.
For example if i right click on the Trash or Desktop or copy Files. I googled alot and found answers about the Windows Context Menu. Windows Explorer is still a Windows application, so debugging it can tell you why it crashes at least because of which module it crashes. Then you can search on the Internet to see how to get rid of that problematic module.
In any case, you need to check the state of the process for the duration it is alive. This case is a little different from hang because in this case the process though slow still does its job. For example, if the process is alive for 30 minutes, collect dumps every 10 minutes. If it is a server process like pmserver, pmrepagent — choose a sampling time, let us say 3 iterations with a minute interval. There is no single holy number for the number of dumps OR interval.
The point is, choose wisely based on the lifetime of the process and definitely collect a minimum of 3 dumps. A process crash on Windows, unlike Unix flavors, does not inherently generate a core file. This leaves us with no option but to wait for another occurrence to collect crash dump. To understand why and how we configure DebugDiag to collect dumps, we need to first understand a little about the rules we could configure to generate dumps.
To start with, there are 2 types of exceptions:. For enthusiasts, here are a couple of blogs from Microsoft that might help understand these exceptions better:. I've seen on a few threads where you talk about Autodesk and explorer not playing nice together. I've tried a few of the solutions, but haven't had any Luck. Would you be able to give another engineer a hand with this issue?
I'm also having issues getting my switchable graphics working again, but I had that working at one point after going to 8. Let me know if that links works. Thanks for the quick response. There are 4 dumps which occurred right after booting up and changing to the desktop. I've noticed this problem recently. I haven't looked into it because i just noticed yesterday.
But I installed 3dsMax at home recently as well. And it has some direct connect stuff for inventor files, probably translated through step files. I've used SAT before that if I needed nurbs data. I'm not sure if I've done the latest service pack on that or not.
I'll take that one home and see if it fixes it. C: works just fine. Then I can navigate as much as I want from there without crashing. I have found that on several computers, uninstalling a Norton product Antivirus, , etc has resolved the issue.
This can be done by:. Select "Safe mode with networking" or safe mode if you can download Norton Removal tool on another PC. Download the "Norton Removal Tool" if you do not have it. Google "Norton Removal Tool", first link. That has fixed the issue for me on several machines as I mentioned. Although the problem may still be related to other software as well. You may be able to reinstall the Norton product afterwards, however I have not tried this yet. I appreciate the work you're doing here.
This error manifests itself every time I right-click an object in the Explorer window. Contents Exit focus mode. Process Explorer v Is this page helpful? Please rate your experience Yes No. Any additional feedback?
