I also did my own build with xen support and then went through the troubles of installing it on xenserver. In case anyone is looking for a click and run version, you can download an Upgrade File or a fresh and clean. If there is further interest, I'm able to provide regular updates. Last edited: Nov 23, Phlogi, have you succeeded building with xen-tools?
Well I did not change the build itself at all to include additional packages yet, if that's what you mean? However I got a xen enabled freeNAS build working.
On that one you can "simply" pkg install xe-guest-utilities if you need that. Or do you want xen-tools to use freeNAS as a dom0 - I doubt that :. Hi Phlogi! Hi Ringerl I could post the steps to get pkg working, but in my case it destroyed some other packages while installing xe-guest-utilities.
However you can just reboot and the changes are gone anyway. I also added the guest utilities to the packages, so the only thing I need to do as a boot task is: Code:. The latest stable 9. They must be added or removed together. Anyone tested this already?

Those packages were working with XenServer too, but it is enough true that in fact xe-guest-utilities can do the trick.
Unfortunately I could not go on the case anymore. I really have too few time to look into this. So I did not had any time to look into the go build, but this week I tried a weird thing. FreeNAS is locked down to avoid using pkg. It worked and I was able to use xenguest script under rc.
This is enough to let XCP recognize it and allow to use the Reboot and Shutdown commands instead of the forced ones.
Note that in FreeNAS Could you add a detailed "how to" in XCP-ng wiki? I also added a pointer on the home page, in the Miscellaneous section. Thank you woopla I really had no time for it! Thank you for this etomm and woopla! Gives me a path forward, away from FreeNAS 9. The info in the wiki worked, although I had to edit the files manually for it to actually work. Glad I can now shutdown properly, Saved me some head scratching for sure!
Hi all. I've installed the xe-guest-utilities package on a few different FreeNAS installations versions Hi amp I've got a From the research I tried to do it appears this 'VNET failure' could be related to creating a virtualised network adapter for plex within a virtualised environment. I don't get this failure with FreeNAS I made a thread about the issue on the FreeNAS forum, but didn't get any responses possibly because the problem is occurring on a virtualised installation :.
I have installed a fresh But afterwards, well that's another thread Have had quite few little hiccups with I didn't get a chance to test it last night, but according to someone on the FreeNAS forum the issue with the "pkg install xe-guest-utilities" command not working on FreeNAS I'll have a look at the Nested Virtualisation feature you suggested, and if that doesn't work I'll just run my Plex server from a Windows VM instead.
Thanks for your help. Skip to content. The versions reported here are just the current version and they maybe different in your installation. Revert the repos to their original settings to avoid surprises down the road.
The second command should be run just if you disabled the local repo in step Once the package is installed, you need to tell FreeNAS to start the xe-daemon process when starting:. More insights and options are available in this issue opens new window or this issue opens new window.
There exists two different set of tools that you can use on your VMs: the official tools from Citrix Hypervisor, or the fully open-source tools from XCP-ng. Both work well. The important point is not to mix them in the same VM. Stability and testing status: Windows guest tools community testing opens new window. The first step, before the VM creation and first start, is to make sure than Windows Update is not going to install Citrix tools automatically at first boot.
This behaviour is governed by the "Windows Update tools" parameter in a VMs advanced view. It must be off. If you already started the VM with the option on, then the Citrix drivers have been installed automatically.
Restart from scratch or see below how to remove them. True means that it's active, False that it isn't. It needs to be False. Note : Restart can take a while if your windows is currently updating. Restart only occurs after windows has the updates finished.
Our installer is not able currently to cleanly uninstall Citrix tools. Citrix tools' uninstaller itself isn't either: it leaves various things behind. If the confident option above didn't yield the expected results, then we switch to a more aggressive attitude towards the old tools.
What follows works in many cases, but some users occasionally still meet the following issues: XCP-ng tools not installing but Citrix tools install well, so that is a solution to have working tools , and occasional BSODs in some cases or versions of Windows.
The only way to get the management agent is from Citrix. It can be freely downloaded from the Citrix Hypervisor download page opens new window , provided you create an account on their site. The installer will install both the management agent and the device drivers.
